Maldives kick off guesthouse symposium

Guesthouse symposium organized by Ministry of Tourism kicks off on Saturday. The opening ceremony was held in Dharubaaruge, and was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed. Tourism Ministry estimated that about 340 guesthouses took part in the one-day event. In addition to guest house operators, atoll and island councils took part in this symposium.

The event is divided into four sessions, first of which is to create awareness about the regulations on operating guesthouses. While the second session is dedicated to tourism and society, the third session addresses destination marketing. In the fourth and final session, guesthouse operators will share their experiences.

The main events of the symposium are set to be concluded by 20:30 P.M. on Saturday. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will take part in the closing ceremony of the guesthouse symposium. This which is one of the pledges to be completed within the first 100 days of his presidency. There are 12 hotels and 508 guesthouses dedicated to tourists in Maldives. Additionally, there are 140 safaris, 308 travel agencies and 272 dive schools operating.

President Solih inaugurates guesthouse symposium, to be held Saturday

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the guesthouse symposium, to be held on Saturday, and allocated a motto for this year’s gathering. President Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated the symposium at an event at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

Ahmed Abeer, the assistant director at the Tourism Ministry, said on Tuesday that he is confident the symposium will benefit guesthouses operating in the Maldives.

Abeer said that in addition to guesthouses, local government councils in administrative atolls and outlying islands, as well as other stakeholders will be participating. The symposium is to being at 8:00am on Saturday.
