Ministry starts issuing permit to restaurants, shops for 24/7 service

Ministry of Economic Development has revised the Regulation for Restaurant/Tea Hotels and Shops, and started issuing permits to allow such businesses to operate 24/7
The regulation, published by the Ministry of Economic Development last Monday, lists conditions for granting permit to operate 24/7. They are:
The business must be operated in a location permitted by city council or island council
The inside needs to be visible from the outside
The business must have 24/7 CCTV cameras operational
Smoking ban must be imposed from 1 am to 4 am
A MVR 2,000 fee
Ministry of Economic Development has warned businesses which violate the revised regulation will be penalized. First time offenders will be penalized with suspension of permit for six months, and repeat offenders will be penalized with cancellation of permit.
FSM Fuel Stations to operate on 24-hour basis

Gas refill stations of Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) will operate on a 24 hour basis following amendments by Maldives government on business hours.
Maldives Economic Ministry through local gazette announced permitting local petrol stations to operate for 24 hours. The permit is exclusive to government-approved petrol stations. Prior to this, petrol stations were allowed to operate from the morning 5 am to midnight at 12 am.
FSM highlighted that the new changes would bring about great ease to the public. Every petrol station would be closed for fifteen minutes during prayer times and closed from 08:00hrs until 14:00hrs on Fridays.
They further announced that the station near STELCO, Easy Fill 1 will operate on a 24 hour basis however, the station will service automobiles and other four-wheeled vehicles from 08:00hrs until 22:00hrs. Post 22:00hrs, the station will allow refill for all types of vehicles.
Maldives government further revealed they are currently going through discussions to grant permission for local wholesale and retail outlets to operate on a 24 hour basis.
A Discussion to be held to discuss the 24 hour Regulation for shops, cafes and restaurants

Male city council has decided to hold a discussion with the residents of Male city about the regulation to keep the shops, cafes and restaurants open for 24 hours. The discussion will be held at 20:00 hours on the 2nd of December.
A member of the Male city council, Ms Hamna Rasheed stated that the discussion is being held under the instructions of the Economic Ministry. Multiple residents of Male’ city and businesspeople are expected to participate in this discussion.
The ministry has put up a declaration on their website on how they would like to proceed with the regulation and which places received the permission to keep their business open for 24 hours.
The pledge to give permission to shops, cafes and restaurants to remain open for 24 hours is part of Hon. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s first 100 day pledges.
